Women who enjoy development / IT / Linux

theblackfox
One of the biggest barriers I've had with women is not being able to describe or explain the type of work I do or have them share my interests. To put it in perspective: While I use a graphical OS for my everyday use, when I service or provision a server, I do it via a text-based command shell. Whereas everyone views a site through a browser, I see what actually goes on in the server providing you the content. Everything from the TCP connection from your computer to the webserver be it Passenger such as MaiOtaku appears to use, to Apache which http://teamblackfox.com uses to NGINX what my current project uses to the page being served back to you via your browser I can see and debug. I see everything from the opposite perspective when it comes to computers. I've learned from experience that the relationships that last share as MUCH as possible between the two parties, personality, interests and skills. I'd be surprised if 10% understood my above paragraph, let alone know what all the terms mean and such. Which leaves the question: Does anyone here enjoy discussion of this type of thing without saying "Its too technical / nerd sh!t"

I understood that but just from reasoning things out and having a basic understanding of computers.
