Humor me since I haven't been really up to date with the handheld console so I want to ask since I'm buying either the vita or the 3ds depending on the game selection and anime base games and rpg for the most part

I think another thing to consider is if you're getting a ps4 also. I believe that the Vita is able to remote play most of the ps4 games, so if you're the kind of person who has lots of ps4 games you wanna play on the go then that might be the more bang for your buck so to speak

Not really since I'm an Xbox fan but since Xbox doesn't have a handheld and play station has a lot of the rpg I link but I'm still hesitant but would love to see more opinions

The Vita would be awesome if we got some games from Japan. When I was in Tokyo at game stores there were so many vita games and everything at the Tokyo game show that was for the ps3 was also for the vita. But for the western market right now I'll stick with the 3ds. Come on Japan send those Vita games over here!!!

I heard you can play japanese games on the vita the only thing you got to do is restore it and use a japanese account and a new memory card for japanese games and one for us based games

You can play them but unless its a fighting game or something easy to follow (or a master at Japanese) you will just get lost. The Vita over there is dating sim and RPG heaven.
Side note, import fighting games. They are amazing. Gundam extreme VS. for the PS3 is so fun and an arcade game called Under Night In-Birth is trying to make it to consoles and handhelds and that game is one of the fastest fighters I've ever played.

Blazingbow left out 3ds' best game, Fire Emblem. I absolutely love the 3ds and 90% of my gaming time now goes to playing it. The other 10% goes to Ni No Kuni whenever I get on my ps3. The vita looks awesome though, and I will most likely get one soon, I'm just waiting for a game that will convince me to buy it.
You mentioned you're an rpg fan, and that's the main reason I got a 3ds actually.
There's already fire emblem, etrian odyssey, tales of the abyss, Mario and luigi dream team, paper Mario sticker star, shin megami tensei, and more.
Plus Bravely Default looks really good and comes out soon. Then you have the new Zelda, the new Smash Bros and others.
The 3ds probably has the most impressive lineup of current an soon-to-come games.

3DS has the better game library. Vita has the better tech and more features. Vita's library, while slowly improving, still lags far behind the 3DS. Frankly, if I didn't have PS+, my Vita would pretty much be a dust magnet. The only retail games I've purchased for it in the last six months have been Valhalla Knights 3 and Soul Sacrifice. I'll be getting Ys IV next month, but worthwhile retail releases are still few and far between.
With it's already amazing library and features like Street Pass, I'd go 3DS if I had to pick just one.
