I know, apparently the manga will go on for another 3 to 4 years so we probs have to wait awhile until he reveals anything really important :/ and yeah It kinda says why they did it, but it's not really clear..

It's more like attack on my patience with that manga lol the story moves pretty slowly but I really want to find out what's in the basement. There are still so many plot holes that he hasn't really explained yet...

Oh yeah that part was so sad, I thought he was gonna die. To be honest me either, I really love shoujo manga tho and I'm also keeping up with AOT and Tokyo Ghoul :P
