Self-publishing is getting a lot bigger and a lot more easy to do. Putting an ebook out is a great way to get yourself noticed by bigger publishers

There's always self-publishing on sites like Amazon! Keep an eye out for contests looking for short stories/novellas/novels, you could get some prize money and a publishing deal out of it.
