I prefer manga too, but only when I have the physical book in my hands, and as you probably know that gets expensive quick, and I really don't like reading them online. I prefer to watch the anime over reading manga online.
Conventions rule! And I've never really gotten into fan fiction, but I think writing is always good; developing writing skills and whatnot. Any particular reason you stopped?
