The mural looks so gay・㉨・...It's about 和合二仙 in folklores(deities of marriage and harmony)...In fact, they are 寒山 and 拾得, in history, the two monks were best friends with each other...
Ghost @kuharido There are accounts of relationships in monastic life. It's normal to form close bonds.

How those statues were made:
1.Building the armature with round logs and poles.
2. Developing the figure shape using bundles of reeds. Reeds helped lessen the amount of mud required and reduced the weight burden on the armature
A wooden wedge attached to the armature fixed the statue in place to a hole in the wall behind the statue.
3.Covering with plaster mud: The mixture of local washed clay with fine sand and fiber additions was good for shaping the statues. The mud was made fine or coarse according to the percentage and kind of fiber The coarse mud was made by mixing the clay with straw and was used to shape general shape of the statue The fine mud was made with thirty-percent fine sand and seventy-percent clay mixed with cotton or the like. It was used to shape the face, clothing folds and accessories
5. Modeling and refining with tools
Ghost @kuharido VeryVery innovative and resourceful

so old!!(●`・(エ)・´●)...I secretly took a picture..
Ghost @kuharido oh, it's wonderful. Beautiful sculpture
Lishifu @hakutaku I found compared with taking pictures inside which is forbidden, spotting decaying murals outside is more entertaining~
Lishifu @hakutaku Also spotting words written in unintelligible foreign languages thousands of years ago~~
Ghost @kuharido It's very unique to see such things and be in their presence
Lishifu @hakutaku Those donors were hella rich.
Ghost @kuharido Must be big believers
