I completely agree. The balance between technological achievement and adhering to tradition makes them a unique country. I love cultures all around the world but Japan is my favorite to learn about. What anime have you been watching lately?

Sounds similar to my experience with it. I watched Robotech and Teknoman when I was about four or five. I recognized the animation style but didn't learn it was anime until Pokemon, DBZ, and Sailor Moon became popular. I still love it and it helped discover a love for Japanese culture aswell.
