I can't help but think that "dinosaurs" as we like to call them were actually intelligent creatures very much capable of morality and common sense, and dragons were just simply one of the strongest surviving species left that ancient humans were lucky enough to meet. I mean....there are some ridiculously grand and FAR too large old structures found in the world (such as Pyramids) that not even 10 000 humans at the time could've possibly built in reasonable amount of time....at least not on their own (and there were not that many of us back then either....the said 10 000 was pretty much the entire population of a capital city or even a country). So maybe it was something they taught us to make so we can actually take care of ourselves and inherit this planet from them. Speaking of Pyramids.... They were not just Egyptian thing. Mayans and Aztecs of American continent had something similar too. https://cdn.presstv.com/photo/20171110/266df7bb-df62-4842-9787-08ef5d1f8a9d.jpg And some say there were even some in Tibet (although I'm not sure about this one since there is way too much questionable info surrounding it). I'm saying this because dragons pretty much appear in every major culture.... Despite the fact that our world used to be separated in those times and our civilizations didn't even know about each other. I mean....China was pretty much isolated from the rest of the world thousands of years in the past. Yet we all somehow had dragons in our history in some shape or form. So who knows just what in the world they really meant to us in old times~ https://static.zerochan.net/Hatsune.Miku.full.942789.jpg I've got a few ideas. But I think I already wrote too much for now. xD

Just had a fun thought. In some legends, a dragon's blood is said to grant wishes, immortality, or eternal youth. So if your people are truly descendants of one, that might explain why you tend to look 20 for most of your lifetime. https://media1.tenor.com/images/e579ec091b95190516a153c10dbb2357/tenor.gif

Well besides the royal yellow one, there is still the Azure Dragon of the East as one of Four Beasts. https://dumielauxepices.net/sites/default/files/dark-souls-clipart-blue-drake-498057-3816886.jpg Ye I always found it curious how in Asian ways dragons were always considered to be an omen of something amazing. Unlike we people from the west who always considered them dreaded enemies of humanity. xD Although....from Japanese lore. Dragons are apparently seen as very intelligent, cunning, and egoistic creatures who drink a lot. So I'm not sure anymore. xD
