I've been an anime fan for decades! (Yeah, SAILOR MOON was my gateway drug--"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall" is my favourite episode.) I think maybe my favourite anime series is REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA: "Let's live our lives heroically, let's live them in style!" Lately I've got into stuff like the original DRAGON BALL--Bulma's my favorite character--and ONE PIECE.
Among anime features, I love anything by Studio Ghibli. (The whole world should see GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES: it's about death, but ultimately it's about life!)
I also like translated manga (though I can actually read some Japanese). I recently read NAUSICAA OF WIND VALLEY, which is even better than the anime! I also admire Shigeru Mizuki, especially his SHOWA series.
And my love of cartoons isn't limited to anime--it's everything from Warner Brothers classics to older Disney features like LADY AND THE TRAMP to Canada's National Film Board.
