Well I do have my own software, and I mean to buy my own camera, but I keep finding more expensive toys to spend my money on. I only freelance edit and maybe shoot, it's mostly companies that buy all that other stuff to maintain the cost. But many people do have their own equipment, some just save up for it over time.

Rent can be pretty expensive, especially in places like those. But if you buy your own camera, tripod, sliders, sound device, microphones, lights, software, then it can compare to renting.

Well believe it or not you can make your own equipment. I have a small fenced in backyard. The objects that need extra work would be done there. Like weaving through poles, tetter tot, up the hill and down, ect.(plus you can by a started kit for cheap.) But I found a dog park that has a few of them set up and is free to use. I would only use that if there are barely any other dogs or to solidify the traing with distractions. (She'd have to ignore the dogs who come to her and she'd have to ignore going up to dogs during that time.) Than there is the facility with the trainer. I'm already signed up for classes, but they dont start until Feb, so I just need to work on her stay and release. (Sometimes Stay is needed in the course, but not always.)
As for what I think about new breeds popping up? I have mixed feelings. I think it's great, but at the same time, we have so many breeds that were bred for loads of things already, its like what else do we need?
Take mishki, one of my girls. She's an alaskan klee kai. (AKK) My first thought was why did they want to make a smaller version of the alaskan husky when the alaskan husky breed is not a true breed but a type of dog.(because mushers mix in various breeds to get the fastest dogs with good coat). But there aim for breeding a smaller version is for people who want the husky, but cant because of size. And so, they made one in a smaller package. There are a lot of toy breeds we have already that were bred for silly stuff like that so who am I to judge? The way I see it, if someone gets together with same like mind people, create a breed standard, start a parent club for the breed where breeders sign up to keep track of pedigree, ECT than I have no problems.

Yeah, it's mostly stuff for businesses, I never heard of anyone freelancing to edit a full-length motion picture. I'd probably have to move to either LA, Atlanta, or NYC for that and get my hands on some expensive, top-notch professional software that costs hundreds of dollars.

Oh I see, when it comes to business I have never worked with fiction before (only when I was in college), it's exclusively non-fiction like clipping important pieces from lectures, meetings, presentations, stuff like that. Otherwise if someone approached me to edit their stand-up comedy routine or fantasy short-film, I'll do it if it pays well...

Well, not really... most of the work I get comes from people in the medical field. That's kind of a vast question. As long as it is short, simple, and only needs a few graphics I am fine with it.
