I think lots of people just find it easy to use each other as mutual masturbation sex objects just for the physical pleasure of sex. If both people are ok with this, I don't see a problem. aka fuckbudies etc. Finding a good relationship can take a long time, it's easy to use sex as a filler in between those times as both an emotional substitute and for physical pleasure that is more satisfying than masturbation.

My most recent ex is demisexual. We are just close friends now, because of her anxiety issues, sex with men is difficult for her to enjoy. She's decided she likes girls better anyway in that respect. I think for most people, sex in general just feels really good so they like to do it as much as possible. While I don't require a close emotional connection, I just find it easier for many practical and emotional reasons. I have noticed that there seems to be lots more people in recent years who are demi/grey/asexual and related. Most of my friends growing up were hypersexual. I'm actually one of the least sexual and experienced compared to lots of people I used to know who often exceeded 30 sexual partners in their teens. Or maybe it's just a very different group of people I associate with now on websites like this.
