My family and I had to relocate to our house in San Francisco because our main home is in Santa Clarita. Literally single digit miles from the fire. The air became too intolerable and there was ash everywhere. I have a pretty weak internet connection where I'm at right now and I'm expected to reach San Francisco tomorrow morning. Shi Yen, I would understand if you would want to leave, too, for whatever reason. But let me give my two cents. This is not the time for self blame. That little voice inside your head saying that you could have done something more to change this? That is pride -- nothing more, nothing less. And that's going to help you or her. Please trust me on this. I already lost a loved one to bulimia before and I believe I fought the good fight when it comes to Erica. I made sure I learned from the shortcomings of the past. I tried to learn everything I could about eating disorders hoping that maybe I could change things if I did. Guess what? I didn't. Nothing ever really heals, but we all just need to strive to move on. We can't fight Erica's battles for her. You already did your part. You've been a good friend to her. I'm sure she's thankful to have you on her side. If this is her process of healing, we have no choice but to respect it. She'll be back once she feels it's right to do so. I don't mean MO. I mean back in our lives, Shi Yen. Plus, I know they don't really allow -- or at least heavily monitor -- outside communication once you're in rehab. Her Mum is my friend on Facebook. I'm sure she'll keep me posted. It's okay if you still want to talk to me. Or not. I don't know. I'm not leaving. But whatever your process might be, just like with Erica, I promise I'll respect it, Shi Yen. But the end of the day, things are still easier said than done.
