I was reading your posts on my phone while having after-dinner chats with my colleagues and boss. I accidentally let out this kind of laugh, kind of gag "blargh!" sound! Now my boss thinks I'm an ass who doesn't take him seriously, haha! They were pretty funny. Erica is a sweet talking expert, that little devil! I would want her as a campaign manager if I ever run for president haha! She oversells me, I swear! All of them are good jokes, though, so it's cool. :D I'm just not comfortable with the PRIVILEGED PRETTY PRINCESS label. It makes me feel like everything I have just came to me on a silver platter and it seems wrong, I don't know? >_< My mom has this weird habit of encouraging me to do scary things and during the exact moment of actually doing it, she would drop some statistics bomb about death and survival rates on what I'm about to do WHILE telling me how proud she is of me! Classic example: Whenever she takes me to the airport when I'm about to be assigned to another country for some research diving, she would make a big deal about me dying and my body not being found so she and my dad won't be able to mourn properly WHILE wishing me good luck on my new job! Every freakin' time. At the airport. Pre-departure. Oh, mom. I got so used to it that it no longer freaks me out much! And oh, Chinese families often get this rap about being super rigid and structured and cold, but people have no idea how crazy we all get when we are together! It's like Mardi Gras, only it's zufu, zumu, laopo, and laolao leading the crazy antics! I was never a fan of sweets or candy even as a kid, though. I was that one weird kid at every party who never got excited over the dessert tray or table. The last Chinese sweet treat I had was jian dui on Guo Nian circa 1991. Wait, is your mom a stereotypical "dragon mom"? That's awesome, but scary, I imagine! What do you mean by cutthroat? >_< My mom's awesome. She's the perfect combination of lianhua he long. :D She's the one who pushed me to travel and not get married right after college. She was adamant when my ex proposed to me while my dad was like, "But he's a nice, mature man!" All I was thinking while they were arguing about my future was, "Guys, please keep quiet. I need to finish my master's thesis draft this week!" I couldn't care less about getting hitched then and my Mom knew me all too well. :P She made me work hard for things growing up while my dad and grandparents spoiled me, so I didn't really understand her much when I was younger.
