The hope of bronies not contaminating this website

animecountryboy
I am an otaku and a brony, if you got a problem with that i have just a few questions for y'all: Why can't guys like a good show that has good characters and a nice message in it? Have you seriously sat down to atleast try and watch the show before judging it? Did you know, the show is about understanding and being tolerate of different types of people and linking them for who they are, about learning from your mistakes? How can someone hate such a message as that? Rob, i have yet to meet one brony who likes the show for that reason. Is it possible some may like it for that reason? I would say, it is a possibility. However, you are wrong in thinking a majority of bronies like it for that reason. Also, if something is popular it is going to spread around. Also, i get really pissed off when people call bronies "gay" i guess i am just imagining basically all of my brony friends having girlfriends. *end rant* for now....

PS: The whole "it is a show for little girls" bothers me, because if a show is good the "target demographic" doesn't mean squat, in fact, i dislike the idea of "target demographics" in general.

Phoenix, I have watched the show many times but I never got into it. One of my good friends is a brony, though he's not forcing me to be one. I am fine with that as long he doesn't shove the idea of becoming a fan down my throat. I know things from MLP because my friend likes to inform me about it, and as the show has many themes I suppose that's not a bad thing.

You know, the term "anime" does not specifically refer to Japanese animation and can be applied to animation from any part of the world. In Japanese, the word is typically written in katakana 「アニメ」 because it is an English loan word that stems from the word "animation", and is used to refer to all cartoons. The word manga 「漫画」 is a Japanese word which means "moving picture" when you take it literally and can mean either a cartoon or a comic book from any part of the world. When you go shopping for manga at a Japanese book store, you shop in the コミック (komikku, or comic) section because you are specifically looking for comics. It is English speakers that feel the need to specify "anime" as a term for Japanese animation and "manga" as a term for Japanese comics, when in fact they can be used interchangeably and do not have to refer to any work of Japanese origin. So what I am saying is that My Little Pony is Canadian anime. I want to say as well that it is unfair to say that 60% of bronies are cloppers without any meaningful data or reference to back up that assertion -- it would be synonymous to someone saying that 60% of otaku just want to watch tentacle porn and hentai.

I like it, but I'm not going to start defending it like it's the best thing ever. ...It's a show made for children...It's not that much different from the people on here who still watch adventure time I.E. Me X3

You can ask why 30 year old men would be interested in any cartoon, because the cartoons are by and large made with children as the target demographic. After all, they're too old to watch cartoons, right? People like MLP for the same reasons people like anything else -- it has good overall production quality. The animation is excellent and utilizes the features of Flash very well, the writing is enjoyable and is entertaining across a broad audience, and most importantly, the characters have depth and are very relatable. It is a similar formula that Pixar has used time and again to achieve astounding success. MLP isn't the only show that had a target demographic of girls aged 4-12 that gained popular among older audiences and, more importantly, a significant proportion of males. "The Powerpuff Girls" in the late 90's saw similar success due to its ability to attract a broad age range among both genders. In the early 90's, Nickelodeon's sitcom "Clarissa Explains It All" also experienced a similar phenomenon. What all of these shows have in common is their excellent production value that many people remember fondly to this day. I think Walt Disney that said "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyways." In that same vain, it is hard to experience a measure of success that can stand the test of time in a television show if you aim only for girls such a small age range while neglecting everyone else.

out of all the huge fandoms the bronies are easiest to deal with. i find it much harder to deal with hetaliatards and homestuckers..
