Again, I don't know how you can claim it's not an illness or a disorder unless you are a professional. Depression is one of the most undiagnosed/underdiagnosed medical conditions, even with professional care. (unless this is a strictly theoretical case, in which case you already have the answer)
I don't think asking for opinions on a public internet forum is going to be credible evidence for or against your bet...

I'm assuming that this is a theoretical case of a hypothetical person that doesn't have depression

@floatsinwater, I think you're kinda focusing on depression too much. Everyone, possibly aside from Bodhisattvas, has a dark side. They have anger, sadness, irritability, and emotional instability. They have dark thoughts. Just because this exists does not mean a person suffers a mental illness. I'm not going to say I'm a professional. I was raised by a professional, but that by no means makes me an expert. What I can say is this: I have a dark side, a very dark side. I choose to allow it a place in my life, and I choose to allow it to manifest in healthy ways. Why do I know this is not depression? Because I was tested by five different professionals, given a full psych evaluation, and had depression, among other things, very clearly defined for me.
Our responses here are not suggesting that some individual or another lacks depression. No individual example was really given. The OP gave a hypothetical, "what if" scenario, and left the interpretation open. He said "dark", not "depressed". None of us are diagnosing, none of us are saying he, or anyone he may refer to, should gain diagnosis from the internet. We're giving our opinions on whether or not being a bit dark sometimes is healthy, or if unhealthy, reasonable.
Thought I ought to clarify that before we start spinning in circles.
