I've never heard of the festival till just now. Is it just eating dog meat? I won't eat dog meat but that's another culture. It's hard to comment on it since I know so little.

carnist applies to not just the diet, but also the belief that animals are lower than humans you can eat meat and have 0 opinion on animal welfare, or even "care about them" (even though that makes you a hypocrite of the worse variety) so its basically the opposite of vegan

Well, I think eating plants is the more cruel thing. Animals have agency to flee or fight back. Plants aren't even aware that it's life is in danger. How dare you play favoritism towards a certain type of lifeform just because it looks and acts like you.
