Also, about 42% of all of the civilian owned guns in the world is in the USA. That's 273 million guns in civilian hands. Okay. Greece has 1,8 gun deaths per 100 000 people. The USA has 9 gun deaths per 100 000 people. Still a massive discrepancy.

I was worried this would happen. Whenever a shooting happens it always seems people want to pull out, Let's get rid of guns! No. That won't fix the problem. It would only make things worse. There more guns in the US. Than people. Let me repeat that. There are over 300 MILLION fire arms in the US. There will Always be guns in the US. the only difference is that right now, Good people can keep them to protect themselves. We have strict gun laws in most cases so that's not the issue either. I could kill just as many people with a knife, than with a pistol. The only difference is it'd be bloodier. What we should be doing is putting officers or guards outside of schools with their own firearms. Be far less attempts if they knew they'd probably be stopped before they could get anywhere. Gun violence is a problem, but it will never end in the US. Too many guns, in too many places. It'd be like outlawing alcohol again. It would get us no where, and most people would still carry, Either through legal or illegal means. All we'll be doing by getting rid of firearms is making it easier for criminals.

But why is it that the USA is the only developed country with such high numbers? Many of the other countries have mental health challenges etc. Because it is one of the few where the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected. Look at the Australian case study: In 1996 a man walked into a cafe and killed 35 people with a gun. Australia's prime minister, John Howard saw that there were too many guns. And importantly, it was too easy to acquire firearms as well. So he established a registry for all firearms in the country. They made it so that a permit was also required to own a gun. Automatics, shotguns and semi-automatics were also banned. They issued a buyback to get 650 000 of these guns from the public. Average suicide rates in Australia after the buyback declined by 57 percent directly subsequent to the buyback. The average firearm homicide rate went down by 42 percent. Now Australia has one of the lowest firearm homicide rates, 1,4 per 1 million people.

There's actually at least 17 countries above the United States in gun related homicides. https://i.imgur.com/4v4qAo1.png https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate

@Shinu: I stated developed countries. The USA is by far the highest developed country. All of the countries above the USA are third world countries. @Daggerfella: It is a ten year high, suicides still fell after the buyback. Still doesn't discount the fact that homicides fell in Australia.
