I don't see how/why the meaning of nationalism is altered by putting a racial modifier in front of it or because of what Richard Spencer says. Richard Spencer certainly isn't a lexicographer by any stretch of the imagination, his views don't represent those of the average white person, and his redefinition of the word makes no sense either, so why should his redefinition of the term be used? Thanks for the link on urban exploring, it was interesting though tbh it sounds rather dangerous. Even with a mask there can be structural hazards but if exploring such places means a lot to someone, hey I wish them good luck. Most worthwhile things in life don't come without some sort of risk.

White Nationalism isn't really "Nationalism, defended by White people". It is Nationalism with a focus on the White portion of the US' population.

Well, you know how it sounds when someone on the left or bottom calls someone a fascist, right? Fascists, Neo Nazis, and White Supremacists activate their trap card. Most of the time when we use it, it's more in the context of "Hey, this is what they're calling themselves now. Don't get duped." In a way though, the branding is genius if the goal is to blend in and normalize their beliefs. If the LGBTQQIP2SAA Peeps decided to call themselves literally anything less alien, maybe there wouldn't be nearly as much resistance as they have been getting. Meanwhile, I talk about white nationalists, and people think I'm talking about nationalists. And then they get butt hurt over it. They think I'm talking about the normal people. But if I call one of them a nazi around the normal people, then you know how that goes in today's society. Most of the places I used to hit back in college were in much better shape than that. Like the TB ward in the Ridges at OU. Course that was the kind of place where you have to worry about more than just weak floors, hanging wires, and chipped paint. Like a toy ball rolling by itself in the old Nursery kinda stuff.

I think the danger is in calling someone something they themselves do not identify as. Like I wouldn't go so far as to call someone a nazi unless they were claiming themselves to be one, or heiling, or flying a swastika flag. I've seen too many times in recent years, people being called a nazi just for having a different opinion on something. That's how far gone that word has been abused in recent years. And to that effect, it has been a little normalized so that it doesn't mean what it once did. For the sake of preserving history and the importance of knowing what happened during the Holocaust, it shouldn't be overused, it shouldn't be normalized in modern conversation.

@nebelstern The term White Nationalist literally means a White person who is a nationalist. That's all. There's no defending anything involved and that devotion is NOT racial in nature. The words have existed for a long time and are clearly, factually defined in dictionaries by expert lexicographers. And despite what the media, gov. and a few nutjobs like Richard Spencer would have you believe, they're just people devoted to their country is all and it's a GOOD thing. Afghanistan is a recent example of this. Many of their people were NOT nationalists, betrayed their nation, and surrendered their military bases to the Taliban who are now turning their country into a horrible place to live.
