So two major things are going through my mind rn: one of which is that the war in Afghanistan was a war that was considered unwinnable even by the day the plans for a full-on war were launched as proven by the Afghanistan papers. I see lotta folks online talking about how bad it is that the troops are withdrawing in such a way etc but I feel like this ending was inevitable from day one. It's a shit show right now with the way the US is pulling out but people forget that both the Biden and Trump administration did have talks with the Taliban about US Troops leaving the area etc but like considering the way the war started I don't really think any agreement could have prevented them from going all out with how they're going about this as they've been incredibly pissed as shit for the past 20 years and unlike most of the westernized world, they are way more patient willing to endure than anyone gave them proper credit for and they've been savoring this exact moment for two whole decades now. The other thing that's going through my mind is that there are all these people out there talking about how this means that the Taliban rule will bring a form of stability and will finally bring peace to the area etc and like nah. This isn't even talking about some of the abhorrent things the Taliban does, it's just not going to end in a peaceful way. Even before the US declared war, Afghanistan's been a mess that's had several civil wars and changes of power quite like this never end peacefully. On top of that, even if the US is out, there's another huge country that's been beginning to formally train Afghan soldiers and wants the Taliban out: that country is India. Since the Taliban is incredibly friendly towards Pakistan whom the government of India absolutely loathes, there's still going to be all sorts of dumb shenanigans in the area and Afghanistan as a country is going to suffer for years to come regardless of who's in power.

I agree that America needs to leave Afghanistan the issue is the way we left it. This war was unwinnable but it will show how powerless Americans are. Because we never actually won the war on terrorism in the end we left. After 9/11, after countless deaths, after years of fighting, after resources used. We just left. On top of that we left all our allies behind. Those who helped us, we left behind. The interpreters, the inside men, we left behind for the taliban. The women who grew up with no regard for the taliban's oppressive ideals will be sent back decades into oppression. Some who were borng into an era where they became educated will just suffer. This is a failure, a big one. The fact they took over basically every major city in a few weeks. We may have an even bigger issue once they regain their forces. Get bigger and decide maybe we wanna seek revenge.

I feel once we leave we dont need to go back. We cant go back, this basically reset 20 years of fighting. If we send our troops back in more will die.

I feel like the Afghanistan war could have been winnable had people been smart about it from the get-go and to be honest, I'm sure even people within the Taliban probably would agree with that. Even from the get-go when they were trying to apprehend Bin Laden, there was no real strategy and this was a pure example of military incompetence from a lot of countries sure but without a doubt mostly the US and it's fucking... it's fucking dumb. I get why it happened but like considering it's been proven that so much of this war was also a huge money-laundering scheme for corrupted officials it's just like, this was a huge cluster of fuck. I kinda wanna respond to the idea that people are going to see the US as weak though not because you mentioned it but because I've been seeing it a lot. I don't think any country is really going to use this as a pure attempt to fuck with the US though because the circumstances for this war in particular and most wars in the middle east are a bit more unique than pundits want to talk about or even know how to talk about; these are wars in areas that are nowhere near as developed or connected as people say so a lot of modern military tactics of airstrikes taking out supply depots and enforcing trade barriers etc just didn't do jack all here. Any country that's capable of doing serious damage to the US will know this and they're not going to do shit but for less developed countries or rebel terrorist groups which is what kicked off all of this Afghanistan war shit; they don't give a shit if they're going against the US or China because they're so small they're basically thinking "the fuck are you gonna do to us?" and rightfully so because there's no real way to get back at them without squandering a ridiculous ton of resources. You're going to see a lot of countries make claims that the US is weak because of this and you're going to see pundits wherever you go going off about what a huge failure America is but in the grand scheme of things, nobody's really going to just declare war on the US simply because of this once incident. It's probably going to be the same thing as Vietnam; a huge failure that was broadcast throughout the world but people eventually moved on from. In fact this one incident probably would rightfully scare most countries away from doing fucking with the US anyway because even if the Taliban won in the end, nobody wants to deal with 20 years of war.

I have mixed feelings about the situation but this meme was funny. https://i.ibb.co/VTcV5qM/RDT-20210815-2344403986658718042116691.jpg

@arcfire90 well you gotta think, the war was unwinnable because 1. We trained them on military tactics a bit. While it might not be directly if we trained Afghan military and they then turned around and sided with taliban then thats a problem. 2. you have other countries funding the taliban and giving them weapons to include american entities. 3. The terrain and fighting on land that they live on that they know like the back of their hand. I mean in some way this war could have been won but tbh it was a waste of time. It just sucks that they destroyed an entire building killing loads of people all to get us riled up and start a war that lasted 3 presidential terms. In pursuit of oil and resources. This whole operation was a corrupt politicians wet dream.
