The main reason that commies and other lefties have so much momentum here is how bad we dealt with them when dictatorship was a thing. Our dictatorships never dealt too well with revolutionary propaganda, and focused on supressing it and offing/exiling revolutionary apologists instead of working on counter-revolutionary propaganda. This gave the image that commies were the opressed underdogs of our post-WWII history and earn the people's trust when democracy began.
