its been divided since the civil war my guy except the southern plan succeeded in capturing the southern states so the territories of the conflict have switched

its more nuanced than pro and anti slavery now even back then it was 'states rights vs federal rights', that's the core of it back then it was states rights to own slaves, and now its shit like welfare, abortion, gun laws, universal healthcare, etc but at the core its still federal vs states rights dems being for feds (like lincoln was) and reps being for states another difference with dems and repubs is also about people vs big business dems are the party for people and their welfare, and repubs are the party of big business now dems and repubs switched bases during, what, the 50? 40? but repubs have always been pro big business WHICH back then wasn't a bad thing, because we want big businesses back then so we have more jobs, so og reoublicans i would support but now these mega conglomerates don't need the welfare theyr receiving republicans were the party of the past

the biggest lie on the republican party is that theyr fiscally responsible if youv ever looked at the deficit when a republican is in charge it sky rockets cause guess whos paying for those tax cuts for the wealthy? the poor and our national debt they subsidize it through that trumps tax plan this year was going to raise taxes for people making less than 70k a year RAISE TAXES FOR THEM, because that's how you subsidzie lowering taxes for the rich, that money has to come from somewhere anyways, be thankful biden will be dismantling many aspects of trumps tax policy, raising taxes for people making 400k (as they should be....)

@momoichi The southern strategy did not succeed as they had intended. It actually had to take the Dixiecrats to be outnumbered by the next generation before it would vote Republican which did not happen until 1994. You still have old union workers still vote blue no matter who even if the candidate is going to do things in total opposition to the unions. I really have to argue with you on the Democrat party being the party of welfare and people and not big business. I seriously have to ask you, who did multi-billion and even trillion dollar companies like Amazon, Wal-Mart, Google, Apple etc. donate to? The answer is the Democrat party. Was it because those companies are good people? I don't think so. The regulations and legislation that the Democrat party supports would obliterate any upstart company trying to make in in the sectors these giant companies control. People will not be able to open their own businesses with the high tax rates and regulations they have to obey. Those on top get to stay on top and nothing can come from below and take them out.

dems help big business in a way that you should help them, after all those people employ a shit ton of other people but dems treat them fairly imo, where as republicans give them kick backs in hopes of lobbying positions when they retire (which is more just a fact if you look at the past of these corporate lobbiests, specially with the oil industry) so how do dems line the pockets of their friends in ways that republicans don't?
