oh gotcha so is there a difference between an otaku and kikkikomori and i remember the otaku term coming from a serial killer well now it's used in a lighter sense but whats the difference between them cuz i have heard ppl say they are very different things. and btw thanks for the answers

in america its thrown around as a fun term but in japan its still an insult in japan

otaku = a person who is well versed in his /her hobby ...you can call a huge fan about sports a sports otaku...and we are anime otakus...well most of us... hikkikomori does not mean introvert...hikikomori just hate social interaction....
