a thriving economy is only worth as much as how happy the citizens who contribute to it are. if everyone is pissed off, they'll either stop working for someone else's dime and revolt, or they'll just go off the grid. you can't reintroduce slavery and put a flashy label on it and expect it to just work, in my opinion.
