lemme add under obama we got the legalizations of gay marriage in the states (cant remember if it was a federal thing or state thing i was too young and atm I'm too lazy to google)
we had marajiana being legalized in some states, first step to end the drug war
we had Obamacare inacted, which saved my family personally from bankruptcy when a close famly member suffered a massive stroke, as well as many other families
the economy was going great, the employment were high and the deficit was low
how was life bad under Obama exactly? under his last three years so much great shit happened

over a certain ratio of states ratified similar enough equal rights marriage laws and it forced it to go through federally, iirc.
and hey cali had medical cannabis in 1996! but they were wayyyyy ahead of the times.

@gonebythenight been lower middle class my entire life dude
the adorable care act was the CLOSEST thing to universal healthcare wev ever had, are you still shaming him, the only guy that's even implemented something like this in America, for not making it bigger?
like you just want to hate Obama at this point, it's not a fact based thing at this point
bernie lost for a reason, he cant compromise and the young voters he was known for don't vote
he lost democratically in the market place of ideas, that's all there is to it
i love the dude, his passion is absolutely contagious and he was a career socdem who took part in the civil rights riots and held a pride flag outside his house
but politically the man was all passion and no results

Legalization of gay marriage was federal so it could be counted on tax codes. It was mostly a formality since you could already get the tax credits from civil unions.
Obama had nothing to do with marijuana being legalized in states, that was purely state governance. It was still a federal crime to possess marijuana, still is.
Obamacare worked for some people and made a disaster for others. I was one who it was a disaster for since I had an insurance plan that ended up shooting through the roof to comply with Obamacare standards. It was cheaper to run without insurance and pay the tax at the end of the year. This was when I was fresh out of high school and going into the workforce, and to expect me to have all this money to pay for medical insurance was not in my favor. Had I bought Obamacare insurance, that was totally pointless since it didn't cover anything for the price I was paying for my former insurance.
The economy for people already in the workforce was decent since they were already in. Trying to get into the workforce was a nightmare since you had a bunch of people who were laid off or fired up to around 2010 and they were a better bet to hire than some 18-20 year old kid with their experience. By the time 2014 came around that is when it was finally viable for me to advance my job situation.
The Obama years were some of the worst I personally had experienced. Had he left things alone I would have been able to be far more successful and far sooner. Same for most of the people I went to high school with. Only in the last 2 years or so have we been able to advance in our careers.

@dyadka_yar that sucks for you but it was amazing for my family. it literally saved my family. I'm sorry but peoples lives being saved is a higher priority then others paying more for their insurance
the jobs losses were bush, Obama created jobs so that's not a dig at Obama, that's a dig at bush
it took Obama his entire 2 terms to fix that shit hole, and it showed in his last three years
and i contest that a democrat in office didn't help the gay rights agenda, as well as legalizing marijuana
a republican would have pushed to squash both at least, which they have done in the past
a republican got us into the drug war and republican party is the party of bigotry historically

@dyadka_yar i think crooked insurance companies and hospitals are the issue here, not obamacare. i think it's evident from the fact that a dose of over-the-counter advil and a splint can cost 100s of dollars here in the US at an emergency room visit. there really isn't an ethical justification for that. farmers get subsidized for growing shit crops, healthcare workers should be subsidized for saving lives if the industry isn't naturally profitable enough.
until hospital admins and insurance companies stop their wanton greed we are going to have objectively awful healthcare in the US. it really is as simple as that. it was KIND of working before but as they started to lobby more and more to be able to legally rob the average american seeking healthcare, more laws were passed in insurance companies and hospitals favor, the more it got out of control.
if those industries weren't so fucked, private healthcare COULD go back to semi-working, still fucks those without jobs but hey, at least there is some incentive to work and contribute, ya know?

Well it didn't really save any lives since a hospital is legally obligated to deal with life saving procedures. As far as needed procedures, people have completely forgotten about private charitable donations and organizations in lieu of government programs which can help in individual cases rather than affecting everybody as a whole. Say I come down with a sudden case of Hepatitis with expensive treatments, I could always go to my church and see if they would be willing to help.
Now you can't blame job losses and a recession on Bush, just as I won't blame Obama for government stimulus to car and bank industries. We have the legislative branch to blame for that. However the job losses and recession was something that was brewing ever since the 90s and very few economists warned about the housing bubble that was going to explode thanks to loans that could never have been paid back whether by state or federal mandate. Most banks were required to forced to give out loans to people who were totally unqualified. Some might say that this is a "predatory loan", but let me ask this question. What sense does it make to give money to somebody who has no hope to give it back and has no assets worth taking?
Bush couldn't have done anything to stop it on a state level, not without a centralization of federal powers which could have led to other issues down the line. One of the reasons I don't like centralization of federal powers since if the federal government makes a mistake, then we all lose.
The war on drugs was something that we didn't realize would not work. The main objective back in the day was to get rid of the drug traffickers and kingpins of Central and South America, the problem was that the drug mafias had the governments of Central and South America under their thumbs and there was no way we could have got rid of them with anything short of waging a conventional war with Colombia, Mexico, Nicaragua and Honduras. So it became an issue of trying to keep drugs under control within the borders of the US, which is something that clearly didn't work.
However stating that the Republican Party is the party of bigotry is a load of nonsense, both are. Just the Republican stance aligns with my methods far more. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was both proposed and passed by the Republicans. Democrats even tried a filibuster to stop it. LBJ gets credit for it because he signed off on it. Let's not forget the 1994 Crime Bill which was overwhelmingly voted to pass by Democrats which led to the arrests of an unfortunate amount of Black Americans for the simple act of smoking some of the green of which some only recently got out in the last 5 years. Have the Republicans done things that don't work in the favor of minorities? Yes, but saying that the Democrat party are the great arbiters of truth and justice is a load of nonsense.
@frozenxheavens
One of the major things about the hospitals and insurance companies being so expensive is that insurance companies have been so involved with the government that they basically have protections. People are required to have insurance, the insurance company charges the hospital a very large sum of money to even be used by the hospital. Another issue is that Medicare and Medicaid don't reimburse the hospital or clinic for anywhere near what the procedure is worth. We are talking about 1/3rd to 3/5ths the cost. So hospitals have to charge more for their procedures and are backed into a corner between both private industry and government institutions.

@dyadka_yar i can only speak on my experience but my family member got treatment at mary Washington (if i remember correctly, was years ago) hospital, the best hospital in Virginia
the bills were in the millions, so we would have become bankrupt trying to pay that. he had no insurance and funny enough he hated Obamacare, but in the end when he had his stroke he ended up needing it and it got him the best help
wait, lemme get this clear, you think bush had nothing to do with the recession? nothing at all?
and lets for a second somehow say he didn't, Obama still rescued this country from that recession, and got unemployment low. so again, you can say thanks to Obama instead of somehow blaming him.
even if we were to say we didn't know the war on drugs wouldn't work, they never fucking repealed any of the drug policies. ever. the republicans always pushed that marijuana is bad while dems have been iffy on it.
you say it was "to keep drugs from getting into the country" but what about the punishments for having drugs? or the unfair policing when it came to those drugs? that was just a tactic for free labor by keeping minorities in the prison system to keep them down
but tell me that regan wasn't an open, and known racist and that's just a conspiracy.
debate me on this, dyad, because that's not true
google the southern plan and get back to me
it is a known fact that dixiecrats would vote republican today, the parties switched
but we can debate this easily if you want
