If I had to explain it really well I'd have to get into a ton of the chemistry of how steel works for knives and I doubt you wanna see all my rambling lol.

To put it simply steel has a lot of elements in it that have different boiling points and melting it will cause them to boil away and you'll be left with soft iron and not the good steel you want in a knife.
But yes, knives and swords are an interesting subject more people should be interested in, it's a bit of a dying industry.

Somehow, I think you might be interested in doing a Sai?
Sai are famous to be used by the Japanese, but they are of Indian origin as far I remember.
Well. I've seen your craft before and I must point your excellence in it.

They sure are an interesting weapon, but i don't think they fit my style, although i think i'll be making some other asian weapons like some chinese, japanese and indian swords since they're some of my favorites.

The Indian Tulwar sword is one of my favorites, along with the Turkish Kilij. One of the biggest things that I find sad is that the secret behind Damask Steel is for all intents and purposes, lost. You have the modern pattern welding which looks like Damask Steel, but does not have the strength or flexibility of the Indian Wootz based steel.
