It takes some time to feel like you fit in anywhere, same as here. You just have to keep at it.

Well, Archer, you keep repeating that Narnia is "not a bad book", and I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will concur. I know that I'm in the minority in this regard. The fact that you enjoyed it is okay and nobody who's criticizing it is going to take that away from you, so there's no need to repeat it so often. I understood it the first time you said it. My criticism is not an attack against the book's fans - you may love it as much as you want, it doesn't faze me. I, too, love a lot of things that are objectively bad, or stuff that most people consider to be fairly terrible. Ultimately, all such valuations are subjective and even the objectively worst product will find its lovers.
Obviously the story appealed to you on some level, or you wouldn't have enjoyed it. It didn't to me, however. I found nothing worthwhile in it, even though I loved the British TV series as a kid. Maybe that even contributed to my disappointment. Also the characters in the book seemed very shallow. There was no depth in either of them. As I said, there were a number of reasons why I didn't like the book, and of course, this is only my personal opinion - something I shouldn't have to mention, because it should be absolutely clear all by itself. I certainly could lay out in detail to you how this opinion formed, but for that I'd have to re-read the book, which I'm not going to do.
Yes, such tales can stimulate creativity, and perhaps I would have even liked it, had I read it as a child, but I did not, so all the flaws jumped right into my face and I had to force myself to read through this thin, little book. Sometimes it is surely beneficial to read something that is really bad, so you can cherish the good things even more. If you only get in contact with the best art you might be mislead into believing that it is not the product of skillful craftsmanship, but that anyone can do it. Bad shit helps us to ground ourselves. Still, when it comes to literature and especially the use of language in novels I know no mercy. If a novel fails on the most basic level already I don't care anymore, because no matter how great the story is, if you don't have the words to make it exciting, you sure as hell can't keep my attention.
There are a million alternatives for the word "said", for just as many situations. As Mark Twain once noted: "The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter - 'tis the difference between the lightning-bug and the lightning." You say that "howl" and "shout" stand out like a sore thumb. Well, that depends on the context it is used in. But certainly, the repeat use of "said" also stands out like a sore thumb. Oftentimes you don't have to use any such word at all, because it is clear from from context who says what and how. But to show how bad it is to constantly use "said", here a slightly exaggerated example of how Lewis wrote in my eyes:
"Archer! Dodge the arrow!" said Sparkie.
"What?" said Archer.
"An arrow!" said Sparkie.
"Where?" said Archer.
"Behind you!" said Sparkie. "Dodge!"
"I see nothing!" said Archer.
"It's coming!" said Sparkie. "Get down, or it will hit you!"
"Are you sure?" said Sparkie.
"For fucks sake, Archer! Hit the floor!" said Sparkie.
"But I don't see anything!" said Archer.
"You will die, if you don't move right away!" said Sparkie.
"You sure?" said Archer.
"Yes!" said Sparkie.
"I'm skeptical," said Archer.
"What?!" said Sparkie.
"Yeah," said Archer. "What if there is no arrow and I dodge and look stupid and everyone laughs, because I'm such a scaredy-pants."
"Oh God, Archer! Don't you understand? You will die! D-I-E! DIE!" said Sparkie.
"But maybe this arrow is an illusion. Or it isn't an arrow at all. What kind of shape does it have?" said Archer.
"It has an arrow shape, Archer! Because it is an arrow!" said Sparkie.
"Many things have the shape of an arrow," said Archer.
"Please Archer! Stop discussing with me!" said Sparkie.
"Well, I don't know. This whole thing sounds very fishy to me," said Archer. "What if you want me to hit the floor, because you want to get me into a position where you could easily rap-"
*THUKK!
"I'm hit!" said Archer.
"Go figure!" said Sparkie.
"By an arrow!" said Archer.
"Oh really!?" said Sparkie.
"I'm dying!" said Archer.
"I told you so!" said Sparkie.
And then Archer died.
"Why didn't you listen to me, Archer!? Why didn't you listen to me!?" said Sparkie and then he died, too, because Archer's incredulity was too much for him to bear.
