From an individual level, you could argue that succeding in life and achieving your goals are two non mutually exclusive ideas. But you never fully connnected the idea of your title of "succeeding in life" with that of your central thesis "fighting depression." To tie it up in a nice bow tie. Acheving your goals leads to success in your life. Success generally makes you happy, which in turn fights your depression. Seems like straightforward advise. Since I've never dealt with depression, I would have to look at clinical trials to see what is the best method for fighting depression. I'm to lazy to read all that for a single post so I'll just say sure whatever.

Also some people will feel lost once the short-term goal they set gets achieved by them~Let’s set a long-term goal: survive and try to be “happy” until death befalls you someday.

"for those who don't have a permanent cut on their hormones" What is that supposed to mean? Do you mean to say that clinical depression can be "cured" thru self improvement, too? Because IF that's what you're saying, I think you haven't really thought that part out. Edit: My bad... Can't read, but the rest of what I put down is still worth reading. Sure, self improvement can give one a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. However, that's kind of an obvious one for life in general. Depression comes in so many forms, though. If you truly feel depressed a majority of the time, I'd suggest therapy and possibly a medication combo. Just getting out of the house, making friends, being social or improving your job prospects may not be enough. Clinical depression is a different beast that I truly believe unless you've gone thru it or are dealing with it, you may not really understand. Clinical depression may even last a lifetime, it's just the way it works sometimes. But, there are ways to hopefully ease it, even if just a little.
