Coronavirus. Your thoughts? [Serious and Non-Serious]

So, ivermectin is is an anti parasitic drug. There has been an in vitro study (not done in a living organism) in Australia that shows there may be some inhibition of sars cov 2 but that is a long shot from being tested in life. That study even stressed how this in no way translates to human use. What happens in a test tube under laboratory settings is a pretty far cry from being able to help a human. In terms of actual human use there was a retrospective study done in 704 covid patients that showed reduction in mortality and icu length of stay BUT it was retracted by its authors which is weird. Current clinical trials I’ve found aren’t expected to be finished until like March 2021. So this is not a treatment I would be holding out for, and it’s definitely not on any hospital protocol I’ve ever seen and I work in drug information in the largest medical center in the United States

Coincidentally I have read the published FDA data on the Pfizer biontech vaccine and honestly, I haven’t seen any red flags to my knowledge. We’ll still have to wear masks and continue social distance measures since there was no significant data regarding asymptotic spread, lack of data in pediatric populations (which is normal), and pregnant women (also normal). They got a pretty large sample size and honestly, more diversity in there than I normally see in clinical trials around here. I think logistics will be a bit of a nightmare for rural and underserved locations though.

but in all seriousness... i do think people are over exaggerating a little too much. its kinda not fair to tell people they cant see family for the holidays when we've all already lost a year of our lives already. and it STILL continues with no stop in sight. its not fair to tell us to live our live all alone for who knows how long when the holidays are around. like i understand people's fears. trust me, i do. but its just for one time of the year. and plus, if we're wearing masks all the time anyways, who are we really hurting? i wouldn't wanna go all this time without being allowed to see my family either. that would hurt me. so as selfish as it is to travel, its also kind of selfish telling people not to travel, because this is a really important time of the year and to tell someone not to go see their family because you don't want to contract a virus... is also selfish. so those are my thoughts on it.
