It's not earth bending. Bending is an unseen force manipulating an element. It's not moving anything. If you pick up a rock and throw it, it's not earth bending it's just throwing a rock. Same with water bending you're moving the rock with your water bending not directly controlling it with bending.

ok so while you may be affecting the element unless you can directly control that element its not considered bending it.. gotcha, but if thats the case its not metal bending its still earth bending since your not bending the metal but the elements within the metal that are bendable.... right?

That's the canon explanation sure but after a while with refining metals I'm not sure how much Earth is still left. I figured Toph just used the Earth at first to gain a sense with metal. That's just my opinion though. Not Canon or anything.

I dont know what i would choose if i had to choose one... they all have their advantages, and disadvantages... Its more of a question of who do i want to be weak against, so ill let everyone else choose first... But ya im not sure how it works... I mean metal is from the earth so i guess it makes sense that she can bend it... But if thats the case i wonder if water benders can bend oil and stuff like that...
