I've been terrified of snakes since I found one in my bedroom at a young age. In 2015 though I had a job at a reptile park (you can see where this is going). I generally checked the water quality of the crocodile enclosures and did the feeding tours for the rest of the day. After a month the boss told me he wanted me to the 11:30 reptile handling...
My immediate supervisor shoved two corn snakes in my hands and told me to start with these small american snakes. (I almost shat myself on the spot!) I played it as cool as I possibly could but soon I'd be expected to take other snakes out (because you can't use the same snakes every day you'll stress them out). So for the next few days I watched all the snake documentaries and snake handling videos I could just trying to normalise the idea. Then I was on to the coastal carpet python. A large snake but very gentle. Its name was Bubbles. Worked my way up to the Centralian Carpet Python called Lucifer. Who was a pervert who only wanted to hide in people's clothes. Within 2 weeks I was helping the 'Snake Lady' work out the anacondas in the morning.
And that's how I got over my fear of snakes for MONEY. And then I was fired a few months later because I couldn't get Boss the Freshy out of the pool for cleaning which is kind of required for my position. Oh well.

I used to have a lot of irrational fears as a kid. I had a lot of things I would do a lot things that seem superstitious in hindsight. I would run down the hallway to my bedroom or else medusa would turn me to stone. I would not swim in a certain section of the swimming pools because that's where the giant bees lived. I also didn't like watching certain movies if they had a particular part that scared me. Now that I take anxiety meds and have learned a lot more about the world around me I have very few irrational fears left. My mom is actually surprise that I like horror movies and roller coasters now.
