It was five months, and my second-to-last relationship. I did of course try. But I can't hold out and be a parent to a grown woman who can't fucking muster the motivation to get out of bed, much less maintain the house (she would leave dirty dishes for 2-3 days if I went on a work trip, with flies and everything.)
My point was, even if it's just a friend, you aren't responsible for other people. Plain and simple. I stayed for as long as I did out of a sense of guilt.

Judging people for no reason is one thing I'm wholly against - I pride myself on spreading positivity and happiness for others because the world can be a dark fucking place sometimes. It's important to make others smile as much as we can. Sometimes I accidentally upset people when I feel I did a good thing and I always feel terrible about it, but I do my best to atone whenever that happens and I'm always trying my best to make people smile whenever I can.

@Kamina. You right about that. You don’t owe them anything.
...
It’s not unreasonable to ask to be kind and courteous to people. It’s another thing entirely to be expected to carry them because they don’t feel like making the effort to take care of themselves. And using their life to hold you hostage. That’s not depression. That’s an abusive user.
Suicide isn’t a threat you make to get your way. And depression shouldn’t be a ploy to beg sympathy or attention. Nobody wants to hang out with someone who’s a total downer and drain. You shouldn’t expect them to.
That said. Even if we don’t owe people our time, I also agree we should afford a little more compassion than kicking them when they’re down.
As someone who was also in a relationship with someone struggling with depression and suicide. On my side, she never used it as a threat. It wasn’t a pity pot, or just being lazy, or feeling sorry for herself. It was a genuine struggle with the pain she felt. She wanted to escape her pain, not woller in it. And with support she got past it.
Supporting people isn’t carrying them. And a bit of compassion doesn’t take alot of time. But there is a very real limit as to what people can or should do.
I guess it really boils down to how the person receives it. Do they return your efforts with efforts of their own, or do they abuse it.
In the spirit of the thread, we aren’t obligated to do more, but maybe we should do more than we do. But that’s not quite the same as not judging people. Why shouldn’t we judge people? There’s thousands of reasons we absolutely should judge people. Not to split hairs, but maybe the creator of the thread could clarify with context?

In Japan, if you have tattoos people might think you're in a gang.

Yeah Kojiro, I know that. I've a few of them on my lower wrists and other spots. But they're not impossible to hide. Hence why I don't mind having them.
