well; update, that cp shit was, predictably, just fake news (ironic, really) up for a veganism debate on the grounds of ethics just name a trait or series of traits that animals lack that allows you to take away their moral consideration https://media4.giphy.com/media/FXiNzAd7PSrE4/giphy.gif

RULES OF NATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If animals kill and eat each other, why can't we kill and eat them? Some would also eat us if they have opportunity to. Personally do not consider industrialized meat farms ethical, but I do not think it is necessarily amoral to eat an animal at all. o7 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOpzP33_USs

*a new challenger approaches* @mountain_tiger the answer would be that humans hold ourselves to a higher standard than animals. animals also rape and kill each others young, yet we as a society look down and criminalize such actions.

As our "current society", we look down on such things. Many societies in the past, made exceptions.

@momoichi Perhaps you can argue that we as a society agreed that certain things are off the table, such as in the laws of war. However, the existence of the "laws of war" dictate that it is necessary for humans to engage in violence occasionally right? Animals will kill and eat us regardless, if an opportunity arrives. Our dietary decisions will not change that, so why not compromise on that front and consider it reasonable to kill and eat animals? At the least, you can argue in favor of "humanely" killing animals, such as the rules of hunting dictate killing animals in the quickest ways possible and ensuring that it is not wasted. Either way, animals are a potential source of sustenance for humans regardless of our decisions. Some times it is necessary to kill animals, why not also eat them? o7

@mountain_tiger "Animals will kill and eat us regardless, if an opportunity arrives. Our dietary decisions will not change that, so why not compromise on that front and consider it reasonable to kill and eat animals?" Humans inarguably have the greater ability of compassion and reasoning than any other animal, so why lower our moral standards with this? And by your same string of logic, cant I torture an orca whale for fun? They basically torture seals for fun and would do the same to me for entertainment, so am i morally just in doing so to them? I also disagree with the notion of humane slaughter. The term itself an oxymoron. How comfortable do you need to make something before you have moral authority over it's own bodily autonomy? And why cant i use the same conditions to kill you? Actually the animal agriculture industry is doing more harm to humanity than good. Most viral infections (like covid) have been cultivated and transmitted via our close proximity to animals via farms and animal markets. It also takes an extraordinary amount of land to feed live stock, and the calories and resources we pour into them isn't equivalent to the calories we get out of them. Farming animals is actually a complete waste of resources and is killing our planet. @yaasshat true, things like pedophilia are some peoples cultures, but that's irrelevant when considering morality. i would argue that just as pedophilia was once acceptable in the past in some cultures, we now see that it is immoral. id say eating meat would be seen as the same in the future.

If animals weren't meant to be eaten then why are they made out of food hmmm?
