The Immigrate Caravan

She isnt right though. The current immigration system is borderline unusable, which is why so many people arent really incentivized to use it. It can take decades for Mexicans to actually get a green card. If our current system was usable, then I would agree with you. But under our current system, it would just be pragmatically beneficial to allow them in, make them legal, and put them under the tax base (although I would definitely argue that we should restrict the types of welfare that are available to these individuals). Immigrants generally present a massive boon to economic activity, and to say that we shouldnt benefit our country economically because of how they wouldnt be going through the legal process (which is completely fucked up right now) just doesnt seem like a good idea

Being an American is a privilege not a right. Don't cut in line at the DMV.

What does that have to do with anything? If it were to be pragmatically beneficial to let them in, why wouldnt we do it? Talk about an "appeal to emotions". At least give me an argument that is better than "it's not fair". I mean, I understand the basis of your argument. But when looking at the bigger picture, it just seems like my idea would be better.

It's not beneficial to let them in. They are statistically more likely to be on welfare than legal Americans. Over 90% of women are rapped crossing the border which doesn't spell well for the amount of crime coming here. They are almost completely low skill workers so they lower the pay rate for low skill worker already in America. The only way they benefit anyone is people who want to pay below poverty wages because they can, due to the fact that the people they hire aren't documented by the government. Even if they did denfit the economy (they don't) I don't think insentiviesing breaking the law and making it harder for law abiding people to get citizenship due to the backlog of illegal immigration is ethical. It's more of an appeal to morality than an appeal to emotion. If you don't enforce border laws than you might as well not have a border. I know some people are in favor of that.

Alright, there are a lot of things that you have stated that are incorrect. Let me go through them one at a time. Claim #1: Over 90% of women are rapped crossing the border which doesn't spell well for the amount of crime coming here https://www.cato.org/publications/immigration-research-policy-brief/their-numbers-demographics-countries-origin This is data that was pulled from Census Bureau statistics. You can see that the incarceration rate for illegal immigrants is roughly half of the rate for natives, and it is even lower for legal immigrants. Claim #2: They are almost completely low skill worker so they lower the pay rate for low skill worker already in America https://object.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/pubs/pdf/working-paper-21-fix.pdf This paper shows that most studies state that the fiscal impact of immigration is negligible. Furthermore, it shows many ways that immigrants have had positive impacts on the economy. http://www.ncsl.org/documents/taskforces/NAS_Economic_Impacts_Summary.pdf Here's a study that was done by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. "When measured over a period of 10 years or more, the impact of immigration on the wages of natives overall is very small." While low-skilled workers might be affected, immigration has an overall positive impact on long-run economic growth in the U.S. Even if we are talking about illegal immigration, they still positively impact the economy: https://news.vice.com/en_us/article/zm5k8j/unauthorized-immigrants-paid-100-billion-into-social-security-over-last-decade "I don't think insentiviesing breaking the law and making it harder for law abiding people to get citizenship due to the backlog of illegal immigration is ethical. It's more of an appeal to morality than an appeal to emotion." When you say "making it harder for law abiding people to get citizenship due to the backlog of illegal immigration", I havent really looked into this, but I dont think that's true. I havent read anything that says that the existence of illegal immigrants makes it harder for legal immigrants to get citizenship. Do you have a source for this statement? I'd be really curious to see it. Overall, the only thing that you said that I agreed with was the fact that they are statistically more likely to be on welfare than legal Americans. This is why I think we should restrict the types of welfare that are available for immigrants. As for the rest of the things you have mentioned, I am curious as to why you think that they are committing more crime here and dont benefit the economy. Is it because of stories that you have heard? Or have you actually looked at statistics from publications/studies that point in the other direction?

"The current immigration system is borderline unusable, which is why so many people arent really incentivized to use it. It can take decades for Mexicans to actually get a green card" it has worked for plenty of legal immigrants, cry everyone a river about how long it takes. legal immigration helps the economy, illegal immigration doesnt, there is a big difference between the two. fyi the phrase "its a priviledge not a right" matters because the entire process is an an application, we arent required to take them in. i noticed your profile says you are from Israel. you wouldnt let the palestenians in just because they want to get over there so badly, would you?

I wasn't talking about legal immigrants I was specifically talking about people illegally crossing the border. People breaking the law to be in America. It makes it harder for people to immigrate legally because they have to deal with the flood of illegal immigration before they can get to the people getting in legally. It's the same people who handle it. This is why legal immigrant usually hate illegal immigration. Look it up if you don't believe me. I wasn't talking about the incarceration rate, I was talking about the amount of women reported being rapped while they were trying to illegally cross the border.I imagine the incarceration rate would be low because they are illegal immigrants avoiding the police as much as possible. Since they already broke the law once. In fact the incarceration rate should be zero since if they are caught committing a crime they should just be sent back, but I digress. My information about lowering the wages for unskilled worker comes from actual experience. From living in a place that recently got a lot of illegal immigrants flooding in. Not only we there new gangs in town but they charge almost nothing for low skilled work and lower the overall pay rate. I'm pretty sure most of them are just as poor here as they were in their home countries. The only people it benefits are people looking for dirt cheap labor, which is bad if you care at all about the low skill workers already in the country. Even if you consider that a economic boost they take too much welfare to give back what they take. It's a net loss.

Even with all that said, they've broken the law. Trespassed on American soil. That should be reason enough. Unless you're saying you don't care about the law. I wouldn't be surprised.

The thing that is bein forgetter here is neither side gives 2 shits about what most think. Those in office have offered stricter borders or more open borders with very little room to amend something and either side will cock block the other. This is what I was getting at earlier Mio...smh. There’s legit no neutral to be had hear with those in office.
