Rein, calm down dude. No reason to get so mad! Just relax. Breath. I'm not the one that accused you of rape. That was the drunk girl you knew. I'm sorry if my comment hurt your feelings! |ω・) edit: @yhav, it sounds like rape, cuz it is

I personally don't think there should be a "time limit" either, shit isn't that simple. Teacup basically brought up all of the points that my mother brought up years ago when she opened up and told me that she was raped before when she was in her mid-20's. She was held at gunpoint and raped outside of her own apartment building and it wasn't by just some random dude who stalked her until she was alone in the middle of the night or something but one of her friends who she knew for years. She actually recognized and greeted him before he pulled out a gun and forced himself on her. I mean in this situation, justice was done at least because she managed to build up the courage to report the incident, and it wasn't only her word vs his since it turned out he was a serial rapist and attacked many other women too. But she also explained to me just how badly that affected her mentally to this day, it took a lot for her to go to the police especially considering the only support she had in that situation was my grandmother, my grandfather told her and I quote: "You should have just kept your legs closed" and went about his business when she went back home for support. Since I mean, if anything traumatic happens the first place you would want to go for support is your own parents right? Hearing her story definitely made me take these types of things much more seriously. Yeah, there may be incidents of "false rape reports" but I dunno. I'd take anyone coming forward to report something like that seriously, because that's a very heavy accusation that would take a lot of courage for the accuser to make.

My only view is for ppl to take things seriously and treat eac case individually.

There are so many things wrong with what some people are saying, it's laughable. No one is putting pressure on rape victims to not come forward. However, they should be able to prove their claims of rape if they expect the rapist to be punished. Just because they dont have enough evidence doesnt mean that they are lying, but it just means that there was not enough evidence to convict someone, which is unfortunate but necessary in order to prevent the jailing of innocent people. The goal is to minimize the rate of wrongful convictions or any crime. Yes, there is always going to be some people that are wrongfully convicted. That doesn't make it good. People arent wrongfully convicted because people dont take into account the all of the evidence, but more of the misidentification from eyewitnesses, false confessions, bad layers, or other various reasons. It may be difficult to get evidence that you were raped, but it isnt impossible (A rape kit, disproving any potential alibi, testimonies of people you were in contact with, etc...). On the contrary, if we were to convict everyone who was accused of rape, then it would be very easy to ruin someone's life over an incident that never happened. I could just claim that someone raped me out of spite of them and their life would be ruined (which is especially important when it comes to politics and the nomination of political figures). Evidence is important. @space cadet The reason why I believe that some people lie about rape is because some people actually do lie about rape.

Tea, That's why it's so critical to speak up as soon as you can, not doing so is a good way to loose physical evidence. I know its hard to speak up, people are alienated from friends/families, jobs can be affected, fear in general of talking about what happened...etc I had an ex who was raped, she was scared enough that she never told her parents for fear of how they'd judge her. Not to mention she didnt know who the guy was and there were no witnesses. See, one could say she shouldn't have been drinking or partying like she was, but that gives NO ONE a green light to just do as they please. Another bad thing (As I learned from a PI. That's another story for another day...), they will try to dig up as much dirt as possible on you in court, they will make you out to look like the bad guy and they will try to make you out to just be a drunk whore.

I'm going to sound harsh, but whatever, if you don't come forward as early as possible and your accuser doesn't get convicted because how long you took, that is your fault and your fault only. The earlier you come forward the higher chance you have of prosecuting an alleged rapist. If you stall out and then come forward much later and the abuser goes off scott free, tough luck for you. IMHO I'd rather let an abuser go free than have an innocent man's life ruined due to false rape allegations. That's my stance and there's nothing anyone can do to change my mind about this. Plus if an innocent person gets jailed the real abuser gets to be free from prosecution. Also if you throw a false rape allegation towards someone and is proven false you should face the same sentence as an actual rapist, to deter people that want to throw a false rape towards someone simply because they regret sleeping with someone or someone looked at them or wants to get back at someone for rejecting them or whatever something as stupid as that. Truthfully I'd rather let all rapists go free than jail one innocent person and I don't care who's triggered by this it's my opinion and there's nothing that can be done to change my mind. I'm out like Golisopod.

Tiger, Yeah! Even the children who've been sexually abused (Which I'd argue, are probably and sadly, the majority of cases.). No, especially the children! They're little snot nosed liars anyways!
