@teacup yeah i get alot of people have different reasons for keeping quiet about being raped. But the thing is between 2% to 10% false reports is way too many. 1 false report is way too many. You essentially ruin someone's life, an innocent someone at that (i mean vice versa for someone who is ACTUALLY raped and have their life ruined) thing is we dont have control over someone else raping us. We do however have control over who we report for it. Rape also isnt a gender specific thing either. Males may very well be raped more than females. Little boys are the main target for alot of pedophiles. Men may also get raped by women and men alike. But as a man its much harder to come out and say you got raped. I just hear about more women coming out and saying "i was raped" in what seems to be groups yet when it comes to men dont hear too much of that Not gonna try and make this a gender specific issue. Just saying that waiting until later doesnt benefit you nor your attacker and often its you who suffers more knowing you didnt get justice right away. Edit: also not reporting right away could possibly allow attackers to rape more people. So you allow more people to get hurt.

How do you expect someone to have p pity or compassion over something that happened decades ago? Switching gears for a sec, in America, Afro-Americans were slaves much longer than freed and people still think that America is over it's psychological and financial damage it's left. Like people really believe since slavery is over then there's no such thing as racist even tho they elected one as president. My point is, America has never been big on compassion. It's been big on money, self interests and guns. Your mental health is the least of their worries. Which is why I believe even tho the system isn't perfect it's all you got so take advantage of it

No, not even counting the amount of stigma that both police, prosecutors and society at large place of the victims, particularly if they're men. Gathering forensic evidence is a lot harder than people think. Tens of thousands of rape kits go untested for decades due to mismanagement and backlog and various other reasons. While fabricated rape allegations are hard to statistically analyze due to the lack of any kind of database or single source and that the data for cases come from a police forces' own conclusions, there was a recent national study using FBI data going back 5 years showed a rate of only ~5% being false or baseless. I think the highest credible, emphasis on credible, rate I've ever seen was like 10%. I know a lot of people are saying you should report ASAP so then the prosecution can begin immediately but given that this kind of decades-long rape kit backlog is taking at police and state departments in all 50 states, it could well be that it takes 20, 30 years for evidence to come out.

This is how I see our government. It's a sad truth

I didn't know about the backlog of rape kits. That's beyond fucked up

Yeah Panda, "too many false rape calls" is definitely an overstatement here. However, the problem isnt the number of false rape claims, but more of the fact that they exist. I dont think that anyone should want to throw out the idea of "innocent until proven guilty" in rape cases because of the fact that there are, on occasion, false rape claims. The ideal our justice system works on is the premise that we'd rather let guilty men go free than jail innocent, and we work on this ideal because we believe in that to do our best to prevent the jailing of innocents although it's almost going to necessitate that every now and then one slips through the cracks. This is why "solid evidence" isnt good enough in rape cases; there needs to be unambiguous proof.

Also, I feel like I hear a lot of men coming forwards now compared to before the metoo movement. Victims of the Catholic church, Anthony Rapp, and Terry Crews. Granted, it's not as much as women but I think that's also aligned with how this kind of toxic masculinity in society treats men in that men are stronger and sex machines who either can never be overpowered by a woman and/or would never not give consent for sex. But that's going off topic

It's a funny thing really. Not the rape in general but the topic of it. However, and this goes for any crime, if you cannot prove without a doubt whether the person raped you or not(Which is simple if you get a rape kit early after.), Then you can't jail them for it. Innocent until proven guilty. Which is a big issue of late with rape in general. Even if it's proven false, the man in question can lose everything, from his college, to his job, his family, and make finding another job a living hell, Ruining their lives due to pettiness. Rape is seen as false reports from 2-10%, Over a thousand men are falsely accused a year. Infact, more men are falsely accused of being rapists than die in the workforce(And considering they make up over 90% of all deaths in the workforce already.). Not only that but over 40% of all rape accusations are identifiable. So you could argue almost 50% are possibly false. While being more realistic would be around 20%. But still that number is staggering, compared to any other false accusations, and again, it ruins the lives whether they are guilty or not. I believe that a rapist should take the full brunt of the law, However it also depends on what you decide is Rape. If you go by the one study that feminists use, you'd believe groping was rape, and consensual drunk sex. In reality if you go by the FBI's stats, there's instead of 1/4, it's more around 1/1200, women are raped. This false statistic has proven wrong over and over again, and needs to be pointed out. Hell there is a law in place where if you lie about yourself(like for instance your bank account) to get in someone's pants you get trialed for rape. It's fucking ridiculous. RAPE is when a man or women, either drugs someone and sleeps with them, or forces themselves on them. Not when they are both drunk, not when they regret doing it afterwards, and if you want the man to suffer for his crimes, you need to take immediate action, or you won't be able to prove it, and if you can't prove it, we can't jail someone for it, that's ignoring the higher likelihood of it being false in general compared to other crimes. However I also believe people who accuse those of a false provably false crime, should take the same kind of punishment as the actual one. As not only will this stop the higher than any other false report crime, stats, but also make it more believable when people come out. However, again, if you're coming back to it years later. Than that's your fault. You will have to live with the fact you can't prove without a doubt, that the person raped you. Because it's bad enough with how it's handled now, let alone if we started Guilty until proven innocent.

Well, since someone posted about the definition of rape and what feminists use (I'm a very advocate feminist FYI), I don't necessarily think the definition of rape is the one where people have contention. I agree with the updated definition of rape as defined by the justice department in that it is “The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim.” It's the consent part where I think the controversy exists.
