"Why Are Fat People Ridiculed In Anime?"

Perhaps so????┌(゚д゚)┘

Interesting for sure. Personally, I think the writer of the article needs to learn how to take a joke. While I was never overweight, I used to be in the opposite direction, SO jokes were made, and you can either learn to laugh, or not too. Life is too short to take things like that seriously. People will do more to avoid pain, rather than gain pleasure. Unfortunately this is a fact of humanity I've come to realize. Being overweight is an issue(And the body positivity movement larger one at hand, made from a larger societal issue we have in the west in general.), It shouldn't be ignored. It gets people killed, That's a fact. While I wouldn't bully someone, I'd rather continuously encourage someone, Than do nothing and watch them be a corpse because of it before they are thirty. Too skinny is not good, but neither is overweight. If people took responsibility and took care of themselves this wouldn't even be a problem.

They're made fun of everywhere and in anything... along with nerds, gays, minorities, and essentially everything else in life that doesn't fit into the mold of what's supposed to be normal. They're ridiculed because people are shitty and insecure, so we judge others to validate the light we wanna shine on ourselves. It's why humans couldn't be trusted with the ring on the pilgrimage to Mordor and it was given to a hobbit instead.

I don't think the article is too far off and it's a culture thing. It's more "ok" to be fat in the west than it is in Japan even despite the myriad of health warnings and the drain on the healthcare system it causes, especially as people get older. After I threw out my back for about a week back in Summer 2015, I made a point to whip my 212lb self into shape and have since trimmed down to a decent 170lbs (I'm 5'8) and have pretty consistently kept it off. My diet is hardly perfect and I still have a bit of a spare tire and love handles around my waist (that "last 10 lbs" you could call it) but I'm in much better shape than I was a few years ago and keep my exercises up six days a week and all but eliminated sugary drinks from my diet and pretty much stick to water, straight black coffee, almond milk (in my cereal), and the occasional fruit juice for a change of pace. Diet isn't perfect as I still will occasionally have junk food and eat like I'm in college still sometimes, but it's not nearly as bad as it was eating out a handful of times a week prior to this current health kick I'm on. I guess I'm on the fence about 50/50 when it comes to "fat shaming" in general. I think most significantly overweight people know it's not healthy to be that big, and there's a time and place to have that sort of discussion and many people could be more tactful when discussing weight issues for sure. That being said, sometimes the "tough love" can be a motivating factor for people to want to get healthier as well.

Marcus.. i know that we can loose weight with many diets, but i was saying that non-veg diet can also help in weight loosing.. eating non-veg is not always proportional to weight increase (contrary to normal beliefs), like u said it depends on the calorie balance and protein turnover.

alright man! :p Just wanted to make sure people don't get the wrong idea, as somehow I've met a lot of people that think fats are terrible for the body and end up with hormonal imbalances and other problems :<

I'm not trying to ridicule anyone. But purely for the sake of the discussion, the cold hard truth of it is that people see excessively over weight people as lazy gluttons that don't bother taking care of themselves... I'm not saying that's always the case. There's always exceptions and legitimate medical causes for it. But that is how many people view it regardless of the medium. I agree that ridiculing people on an abusive level is just wrong, and it doesn't help people lose weight. It just destroys their self-esteem and scars them emotionally. But saying it's okay to be fat isn't good for them either. Then you're just ignoring a serious problem that causes lots of serious health issues. In truth we should frown on it. But people are stupid ignorant and cruel. They take it too far. But better a fictional character than a real person.

As someone who counsels people on lifestyle modifications (including diet and exercise), it's hard. The human mind is amazing at tricking itself into maintaining the same habits. I was shocked when I saw my patient get scheduled for a foot amputation due to their not being compliant with their diabetes medications and eating like crap ask me, "What's for dessert?" post operation. I was shocked again when I saw the next patient who did the exact same thing in the same situation again and again just similar stories. Whenever I see people who have all these health problems who are on all these medications who are now on more medications to deal with the side effects of the medications they previously started when all they had to do was moderately exercise for 45 mins 3x a week and reduce their salt intake, it just makes me in awe of the power the human mind has to resist change

@xueli That’s definitely a very polite way to put it. The human mind does have a pretty twisted way of justifying and rationalizing things.
