Never hurts to understand how something works.
kameiya
So it basically bounces your IP address to different servers around the world to prevent your host from being found out?
jtibbs
No it launches a web application inside your browser that is itself a separate browser that streams video and audio from your computer to anyone whose viewing it. The virtual browser is hosted in a different location so it obviously has a different IP address. Everything you do from it isn't technically from you own network its from a remote network.

It's easier to just agree.

Its not that hard to explain or understand. Not going to blatantly lie about it just because it would easier to say yes. Kameyia explained a proxy server, rabbit is just a web app hosted on a network somewhere else. Its not security its just a different network.
digitalwolf001
I can tell you think that. It's not blatantly lying if you say "yes something like that". You say it's easy to understand and then go on to explain further.

No that's skirting the issue. She asked if it was something, I feel obligated to tell her the truth rather than give her the impression she was right when I know she wasn't. It was easy to explain and I explained the gist of it. The fact that you didn't explain how it worked properly doesn't mean its hard to understand. I gave a detailed explanation and then I simplified it. If someone tries to understand something you shouldn't just say "yea sort of" and leave it at that if you can help them understand something better. The fact that they're asking the question to begin with means they are somewhat interested in knowing how it really works. The reason I originally asked how it worked was because the idea of the service sounded fishy to me and I wanted to be certain of how it worked.

So it's believed that the host you are using changes the network part of the IP address to the same network this site is on? Therefore making your host seem to be in its remote location instead of its physical location?
jtibbs
No theres no IP changing. You use the network resources from rabbit to to do stuff in your browser in a virtual browser. So I'm in norfolk, my IP is in Norfolk, but if I use rabbit to browse the internet, I'm using their network to do it from a virtual browser in atlanta, and the virtual browser has an Atlanta IP. Its just a remote connection to their network, that allows you to stream your screen to other people.

This is how it works. You connect your browser to Rabbit's servers and it launches a virtual browser in chrome or firefox or w/e application you're using. From there you are browsing the internet from their network. Hence the different IP. Like if I connected to your computer from mine, and browsed the internet, everything I'd be doing would be from your network.
