I don't ask for raises. I get a yearly $1 raise. I like it because 1- more money 2- no one else will hire me for what I'm making already. Unless I suck at job interviews and they don't want me bad impression, weird, derpy ect.

Really depends on the company. Many already do regular yearly raises. I see nothing wrong with waiting until someone asks for a raise to get it though. Raises really aren't something given out just because. At least they didn't used to be. In order to earn a raise you have to show reliability, a strong work ethic and the gumption to actually ask. These things all raise your inherent value to the company. Just ask yourself; why should you be given a raise over other employees? Now remember those reasons and bring them to your superior when asking for that raise. Never be afraid to ask for it.

Well, it does depend on the job first of all. If a job requires minimum skills like cashier, fast food, etc, then minimum pay seems appropriate. For example, I'm in IT and the lowest I can probably get in my area is $15 (For entry level). It would be weird if somebody working as a cashier at Food 4 Less to earn the same as me. I have more skills than the cashier so why should they earn the same? It may sound selfish/harsh but that's how I see it. However, I do agree with a raise in regards to the years of working at the job but paycheck still not be close to other careers. It just seems unfair a bit.

If you're a good employee and you feel you've earned it then asking for a raise is simply the best thing to do for yourself and your work. A good employer will value your work ethic and skills so they'll get something sorted out for you, a bad one will simply dismiss the idea in which case if you aren't happy, they can end up losing a very valuable part of their work force. So basically, if you think you deserve it then I think it's a good thing to do because you should think about yourself in things like that.
