If you’re fighting against someone with a blade you’re going to get cut regardless, might as well make it to where you’re stabbed somewhere where you can still fight.

Of course running is a better option but it’s not always on the table. You just said a blade, if you’re coming at me with a hatchet I’d just out run you, or take my chances with something else.
