Net neutrality

manga_bird
I only even heard of this on facebook earlier today. I don't know much about it, but the idea is concerning, since what comes to America generally begins to filter into Europe too. On the other side of things, this could just mean people stop using the internet (or only using for the occasional thing like emails and the odd bit of shopping)

@densetsu_no_baka If you can come up with an example in which only 1 internet provider exists within an area, in which that provider is blocking the competition from entering that area, in which that provider is not a government entity, then I can concede to you that that company has a local monopoly. Simply providing a better service than the competition is not a form of monopoly. If measures are taken to prevent other providers from providing the same level of service, I imagine an argument could be made that that is a monopoly in some fashion, or that it at the least violates business law. If the government itself is protecting a private entity, then I don't believe we can very well punish the private entity for that. If simply no one else will bother providing internet in an area outside of the other provider's efforts, then I don't believe we can punish that 1 provider for it.

What I don't understand is how this vote is still happening with the fake FCC comments under investigation. Where people's identities, anywhere from kids to the now deceased, were stolen to support the Net Neutrality repeal.

Congress can overrule the FCC vote. So, the battle isn't over yet! We must tell Congress to stop the FCC from ending Net Neutrality. https://www.battleforthenet.com/

Even if Congress can't stop it, the Supreme Court can. They're the ones that ultimately decide if the bill is constitutional or not, seeing how this bill isn't constitutional at all there's no way its passing by the Supreme Court.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ajit%20Pai Enjoy @Joker I don't think that's how it works in this case. If I'm understanding correctly, in the case of bureaus the court has the ability to overrule regulations that overstep the authority of the bureau, but since the FCC wrote the regulations, it was entirely "constitutional" for them to repeal them too. Sadly, it's really gonna come down to congress on this one...
