I'd be the slightly insane neutral/kinda bad guy "sidekick" type. I'd cause chaos and mayhem, but I would secretly help the protagonists in my own way...because to me it would be an interesting experience to see how this conflict ends...especially when I have all the control of it in secret. The close rival who eventually has no choice but to put an end to the protagonist for the sake of the world. Or the quiet guy who sits behind the protagonist and is always ignored, with exception of when he says something, but then nobody remembers him afterwards.
