World of Warcraft Classic

richaadokun
Did anyone else feel hyped when Blizzard announced at Blizzcon that they're working on their own official vanilla World of Warcraft servers? While it may not be for everyone, the early days of World of Warcraft, be it in vanilla or TBC, have always been my most enjoyable versions of the game. It's probably a long ways out, but I'm just glad Blizzard is finally doing something great for the legacy community. Hyyyyyyype!

Pssssh, maybe when it's released, you'll come to the dark siiiiide >:D. But no, it really is a pretty different game. I personally do expect a lot of the current playerbase to maybe check it out as "tourists", only to then go back to newer content and leaving a smaller population of core players. But, in an interview, J. Allen Brack did say he's not too concerned what happens with the population, so I do think it'll be a success with how popular certain private servers are (plus big streamers can get in on the fun without getting banned from twitch and whatnot). Hyyyyyyype!

Most definitely! I intend to start a leveling guild (that could evolve into a raiding guild later on perhaps) right when the server starts. You'd most certainly be welcome to join! I'm hoping some of my old WoW buddies will join in too.

I'm getting a bit nervous with all the heated arguments I've been seeing on the official Blizzard WoW classic forum, people fighting over changes that should be made, and those who want it to remain as it was then. I personally believe there should be no changes, and that the only discussion should be how they implement patches since vanilla went through some changes itself during it's lifetime (talent tree changes, gear changes, flipped mount / skill training cost, ect.). Should they roll out patches as they were then? Should they stick to something like patch 1.12.1 and just slowly roll out the content? Should they fix certain bugs? These are the important questions. Fact of the matter is, the only reason this is happening is because of the hard work and passion the Nostalrius team, as well as some other private servers, put in to make completely authentic vanilla experiences and the high number of players that enjoyed playing on them. The popularity they received from people who enjoyed those servers DO NOT want the quality of life changes that ruined the feel of the original game. Without these private servers, Blizzard would have continued the "you think you do, but you don't" logic because they felt it was pure nostalgia, which was proven wrong. Now if I'm being honest, are there certain things I wouldn't mind having in vanilla? Yes, certain things I would consider very small, but the problem is that it's a slippery slope. Once they please one crowd with changes, what's to say they'll stop there? The only way to keep the peace, in my opinion, is to focus only on the important technical stuff on how to launch and progress classic WoW. Does anyone else have thoughts on the matter?

As a recently induced MMO player, I got recommended WoW classic when I was asking for other games to try. I've never played WoW, but I remember seeing it constantly as a kid and wanting so desperately to play but being told no by my folks LOL. good on them, though, that would have been terrible for little old me. Everything with any sort of popularity is gonna get it's fair share of backlash. I don't have any opinions on the matter seeing as I know basically nothing about it, but as far as updating something with history that probably didn't age well, it's gonna need to be changed to better suit the standards of today. What those things in particular are? No idea! But I sure do hope they fix any bugs present in the original, that's for sure. The only question I have regarding WoW is, is it worth trying out the current version, or waiting for the classic?
