Alright, this one is a little more difficult to read, but I will tell you what I've surmised. (I phrased this one as "what if Becker does not join the Navy?") It seems that you would be leaving behind that opportunity to become that strong, bold sort of person. And that this situation will have some sort of strife underlying it, as a root cause of the things that will be happening. The strife could be an argument with someone (over not joining the navy?), some sort of nasty competition for something, or someone disagreeing with you (about the navy?).
