I thinlnthose two answers alone answer your question...
Most of the serious topics aren't really serious. Even this isn't exactly thought provoking.
I had something else to say, but I just got distracted by a bunny hopping by... A literal fuzzy little rabbit. Cotton tail 'n all. ADD strikes again! XD
Edit,
Yeah, I'd prefer thought provoking topics, but I'm somewhat picky on what I choose to get involved in. There have been MANY, but they tend to devolve or you get the ADD crowd involved or people just don't know how to discuss varying opinions. Honestly, I feel a lot of that has to do with the fact that there are a few who have experienced life (aka, older) and most on here are just out of high school or still live at home (Not putting down, just saying you get a different mentality when you are your sole provider.).

MO in general sways from forum to forum topic to topic - sometimes a serious topic will be the rage and die down somehow or another.
Either a serious topic will turn into drama or itll die down because a lot of timid shy conflict avoidant types congregate here who would rather abstain than throw in their two cents and said topic would die down due to inactivity alone.

I'm sure there's plenty of reasons why. There's a lot of shy and anxious people on here who probably don't think they could handle a serious conversation. And then there are people who are on here to escape their serious lives and don't want to deal with it. Or maybe people prefer getting to know one another on an intellectual level on a more private channel, such as PMs?

When I first joined I frequently posted on serious topics, but the drama got old.
More than discussion, it turned into a lot whoever is loudest is right, and attention seeking.
Having both intelligence and an open mind is more rare than you think. Too many people won't accept anything that's not in agreement with their own perspective.

i dont think there is really a reason why aside from people not caring about the subjects discussed in this part of the forum

In my full honest opinion, it seems like there are quite a few people here that just like to shitpost on the forums. For a good while I didn't even feel like posting anywhere because the forums were just full of loud people overshadowing anyone that wasn't in the super cool kid social group. I tend to keep most of my serious, intellectual discussion in PMs, personal preference I suppose.
