Not knowing what the other person is thinking and the depression it brings you not knowing how they truly feel.

The uncertainty of the unknown is what scares most people. The nervousness and anxiety of putting yourself and your feelings out there, unsure of how they will be received. I'm betting most people on here are fairly shy to some extent, myself included. Trying to start a relationship is typically the scariest part.
Ending a relationship, it can depend on which side of the break you're on. Getting dumped and being alone again can be scary as well. Multiplied by being depressed with a broken heart, and knowing you're going to have to start the whole process of uncertainties all over again... That can be pretty scary too.
What's scariest of all is losing love to death and not a breakup.

You know what's the scariest part? The unknown. However, that's the part that makes you keep going. You want to know how things will end up, good or bad. You want to know if this person who you think is worth your time, will always be worth your time.
Honestly, I see some superficial and selfish fears. If you fear your partner will or may be cheating and you have absolutely nothing to base these fears on, you just might be the source of your own insecurities. If you cant have trust or faith in your partner, you have nothing. How about the fears of amounting to being worth while for your partner? How about the fears and apprehensions they may have? How about the intrepid thought of being better for the sake of another? How about forming a lasting and meaningful bond that requires more than just what you want, but what's best for the both of You? Instead of fearing your own pride being damaged, fear damaging another.
All in all, the beginning is exciting and nerve wracking, but as mentioned by teacup, the end is always so much worse. But, you know What? If you never try, you'll never know. At the end of it all, we are usually are own worst enemies and our main source of fear.

I agree. Love is not a feeling, and understanding it as such will ultimately bring more harm than good. You don't really feel it. But you can realize it its there or not after spending enough time with someone, if you are perceptive in your actions and subconscious thoughts. And it's nobody's fault but your own if you figure out after the general attraction and brain chemicals subside, leaving you to realize its simply not there. But as humans with the free will to choose a consensual mate, you have to own up to it if one or both partners are having second thoughts. If someone were to break up with me because they simply weren't feeling it, I can accept that, even if I did love them. Because their free will and ability to make decisions matters to me.
