I'm all for guns! ^-^
I used to do marksman training for a while, and I'm a pretty good shot.
We have an AK-47, and I have a shotgun propped up outside of my room in case anyone tries to harass me when I'm home alone. One time a sex offender escaped from a police car up the road, and the police were searching for him on our property. I made sure the shotgun was on hand, LOL.
I want to get a concealed license, because sometimes people will harass me in public, and I'm honestly afraid sometimes that someone will try to follow me outside and corner me somewhere to try something with me. (I get creeps who follow me around through stores, some of which will make lewd comments, sometimes it really scares me so I don't like going out alone.)

I do appreciate the womans point of view and that "extra" benefit if you will from gun ownership / conceal and carry.
If you are a believer in the "rape culture" thing there isn't much more a woman can do than start packing.
Guns can easily do more for women nowadays than feminism for women feeling safe at home and out in the world.

I had a debate with a liberal friend the other week about guns. As far as gun control favoring liberals go he is very reasonable and does value being informed (which for a liberal on guns is VERY rare). The main point we ended up getting to was why does someone need a thirty (30) round AR-15 for any reason other than killing masses of people.
While the "ideal home defense" gun will vary from expert or person there is certainly a faction of them that will recommend an AR style (semi automatic) rifle. There are several key reasons and points why this is the case.
1. Versatility - the AR-15 (or AR style rifles) can be configured with stock and after market parts with a great deal of versatility and multitude of purposes to suit a great deal of needs.
2. Capacity - with a standard (in most states anyway) thirty round magazine (not clip!!) there is a greater array of threats you can deal with that otherwise you would be vulnerable too. It also makes giving a warning shot or something like that a much more feasible option (I might spare 1/30 for a warning but no way in hell am I sparing 1/10 for a legitimate warning)
** People often think that 10 or less is enough and that there is no need for more than 10 rounds for whatever inane reasons. If you take just 5 minutes to do some research on why this could be false it is very enlightening.
3. Economics - the AR-15 platform is very economical in that with one gun you can accomplish what would otherwise require 2-4 guns of purchasing to accomplish (although a great deal of extra parts and a little know how are needed)
4. Ease of use - the AR platform is one of the easiest platforms for new and experienced shooters alike and user friendliness is quite a thing when your life and those that you love are on the line
My point being there ARE legitimate reasons that someone would want a 30 round capacity AR-15 (or AR style rifle) and not be hell bent on shooting up a school or nightclub.
Just like people classes of weapons have strengths and weaknesses when compared to other classes guns too are subject to this concept. (IE AR Style Rifle v Shotgun V Handgun)
