Maybe its because those guys have a damn hero complex who always think they need to save them from their past no matter what but end up more broken until they see the truth. Or perhaps its they actually believed in the better of them deep down to change. Idk maybe having a heart is a terrible thing for those guys.

That they saw a side to those women no one else saw in private was the reason why even when the world told them to not go further hurting themselves to be there for those women, that they refused because they had hope in that small moment they saw of them. To not be like their family members who hurt them in the past. To help them break that cycle they have been stuck in for years. But no one but those people can do it. So those guys finally realize that too late. After years they realized that. They believed in them.
