@elhaym I wish here would be the same but dogs are being put down if they bite someone or puppys becouse noone adopts them... Its so disturbing

That sounds so nice... Here dogs/cats are only given days to be adopted before they are euthanized in shelters. Unless it's a no-kill shelter, which are often full. I got both my dogs from high-kill shelters and refuse to buy any animal because of it.

Einschläfern von Tieren" (to put an animal down) says that it isn't allowed to put any animal down - except if they suffer or being dangerous.

Yeah that’s how it works here, in the US animals aren’t really as highly valued as I think they should be. I was a vegetarian for 6yrs actually and stopped about a month ago for health reasons. Animal welfare and how we treat them was and is a big deal to me, progress will come someday soon I believe :3. In fact a reason as to why this issue was so important to me, practicality over ethics, is because it specifically applied to me. But, I don’t like talking about my diet, never did...

@auntron_ I hope that will change. Especially for America. One of my American friends told me that people do adopt pets from the shelters thou (I think he wanted to cheer me up).

@elhaym I don't think it will. We have completely unregulated breeding, anyone can breed any dog, doesn't matter about health or the conditions it is kept in, and sell them on facebook, pet stores, even on the road side. Then months later they end up in shelters because people get tired of them. The only state to actually try to do something is California. SORRY I'm a downer. This is an important issue for me, I even have "don't shop, adopt" sticker on my car and foster many animals myself. I get made fun of when I repeat that narrative because people are obsessed with purebreds here. Materialism at its finest.

@alihawk I think it is an important topic and it should be organized. Here in Germany (as I know), we have strong rules for breeding like papers, vaccines etc. Every dog and cat should be chipped (incl registry in a database) that you can assign the pets to their owners. I don't have seen any stray dogs here.

Leave it to the Germans to create a functioning and fluid system. Leave it to the Americans to create exploitation of lives for profit~
