What the deal with Skype Groups ?

gerben
So I see all these threads on the forum telling me that Skype groups made from members of MO don't last long. I, myself like to be in a Skype group of the same sorts, because I just like meeting new people and get in contact with them. I wonder why all those groups die out, does anybody know ? And does anyone also know how to prevent them from dieing out, because I'd like to be in one/make on myself

i used to be in a huge skype group around last year and it was wonderful, i met alot of new people and i felt very welcomed but i think it started to become a problem from many more new people coming in, because you dont really know who they might be, you just add them to skype and into the group and it was around 90? alot of people end up becoming unactive so the "host" had to go throughout the list and remove people from the group so it got tiring along with the skype max people limit to actually call, everyone just grew out from it and moved on from how i remember seeing it, i still look forward to meeting new people but its hard handling it. :) maybe start from small with very well people you can trust and keep it going from there on and keep an eye out for trolls or pedos. btw if u do end up making one, add me :d im cool lel

one of the main reasons is because of ppl not getting along and arguments happening which causes disputes so ppl leave or get kicked out, plus what was said above is true too

a lot of people in skype groups have stuff happen IRL that takes their interest in the chat away. Main reasons (based on 12 chats ive been in) were: #1) Significant other/ obtaining of significant other #2) school & mid terms #3) drama #4) good/ healthy IRL social life resulting in withdrawal from the chat. #5) finding better/ more appealing group and occupies time in that. The only chat ive seen last a long ass time are 2 4chan groups. one with 50 people and one with 6. everything else either dies, or results in the main cluster (of 3-5 people) who talk the most, leaving or talking to each other outside the chat, thus causing the chat to die out.

Skype is a horrible program to use for large groups. You should really use something else if you plan on having 8+ people involved.
