I think a lot of anime fans seem to have those qualities because anime is a very attractive thing to turn to for those who are a little down on their luck in life: being entertaining, representing "perfection," and having various kinds of extraordinary triumphs...All things that people lack, but things that those in less-than-okay situations tend to focus more on. For many people, though, anime is not something they turn to, just something that they like. For those people, relationships aren't as hard to obtain. So I guess it basically means that if you choose to shift your focus more towards the world and face it head-on, you'll start to be more attractive. That doesn't mean you have to turn your back on being an otaku or stop going to cons. It just means that those of us who feel lonely should not use anime as an outlet or an escape, but simply as an interest. I'm not a professional, that's just my two-cents.
